PRESS RELEASE: (Guttenberg, NJ) – Guttenberg Arts Gallery presents Confabulations and Fantabulosas, a solo exhibition of new ceramics and silkscreen prints by visual artist Andrew Cornell Robinson. The exhibition will be on view from October 12th through November 3rd, 2024, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 12th, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Robinson’s latest body of work, Confabulations and Fantabulosas, explores the intricate interplay of memory, fantasy, and identity. Through richly textured ceramics and evocative prints, Robinson layers, obliterates and reconstructs portraits of peculiar figures, creating assemblages that oscillate between personal myth and historical revision. His approach draws from a mix of media and methods, merging figuration and abstraction to challenge traditional narratives, offering a deeper, nuanced exploration of queer erasure.
The exhibition invites viewers into a world where spectral portraits and symbols serve as metaphors for the stranger. The work reflects the relentless navigation of imposed boundaries, where survival is marked by both quiet endurance and bold acts of resistance. Robinson’s figures embody the tensions of existing on the margins, asserting their presence through transformation, adaptation, and a refusal to disappear. Robinson’s work reveals the power of transformation and narrative reconstruction in the face of erasure.
