Ceramics

Ceramic is a material that is at the foundation of my interest in making. Beginning in an early apprenticeship in a production pottery, my work in clay has evolved over the course of my life to include functional and sculptural form. I have a particular interest in building up the surfaces of ceramics through pit and raku firing, building up layers of slip, underglaze, and printed transfers of text and my drawings, transforming the ceramic form into painting substrate. I see my ceramic work and my painting as integral components in a larger visual vocabulary.
