Vanitas 6 (Fig leaves)
Silkscreen with Chine-collé, on cotton rag paper 24 x 36 inches 2022 A further exploration of surveillance, and erasure led me to introduce a series of silhouettes based on drawing of fig leaves, a biblical reference to shame of ones nakedness. In this case, the fig leaves are not discreet, but dominate the figure obscuring the face and human form.

Drawing Inventory: (I Remember Edward's Marginalia)
watercolor, ink and pencil and collage on paper, 40 x 30 inches, 2010
I created this drawing while living and working at the Edward F. Albee. It is a composite of drawings of society folk in the Hamptons and text and pictograms found in the marginalia of an elementary french language book, ostensibly a relict of Edward's childhood.

Vanitas 8 (Mask)
Silkscreen with Chine-collé, on cotton rag paper 22 x 30 inches 2022 I began a series of prints during a residency at the Guttenberg Arts studio in New Jersey. The project began as an examination of stills from police surveillance films taken of gay men in public restrooms from 1960. I became interested how surveillance might be layered over with flowers, and still life scenes, introducing layers of decoration and protective camouflage, obfuscations that may be simultaneously an erasure, and a shield.
